Multi-Omics Characterization of Nutrition

Multiomics is a new technique to data analysis that combines data sets from many omic groups. Genome, proteome, transcriptome, epigenome, and microbiome are some of the omic techniques used in multiomics. With advancements in all of the various omics domains, it is becoming increasingly clear that the answer to a research issue cannot be answered by a single type of omics. Big data and multi-omics technological advancements can give the depth and precision needed to better evaluate individual responses to food, allowing researchers to personalize diets for maximum success. Because of the complexity of food and the great range of individual human responses to food, transitioning from population-based nutrition guidelines to so-called precision nutrition is difficult. Advances in personalized nutrition have been aided by multiomics analysis and machine learning technologies.
